Travel Credit Cards FAQS

The Virgin America co-branded credit card has a 10k bonus offer. Practically it does not guarantee that you will get an award ticket without additional spendings. Note that the redemption options and required number of miles for an award ticket may vary depending on destination you choose (domestic or international), flight class you prefer (economy or business) and the ticket price. Also the redemption conditions may change depending on whether you fly with Virgin America or it's partners. In general 10k is hardly enough for a free ticket. Another option is to choose a regular travel rewards credit card. You can pay your attention to travel cards without fixed bonus offers.

The first thing you should do is sign up with a Delta frequent flyer program, Skymiles. You'll earn miles by flying Delta. But that's not enough, just flying Delta gives you relatively few miles. You can do better if you apply for a travel rewards credit card. This way you'll earn miles not only on Delta purchases, but on any travel purchases and even non-travel purchases. Travel cards usually offer increased rewards for travel and lower rewards for all the rest.

Frankly, in our opinion - no. Korean Air is a good airline, but it isn't good for its credit cards. There are several of them and none of them really shine. If we take the basic one, SKYPASS Visa Classic, it's inferior to almost all credit cards you can ever encounter. It gives you only 1 mile for all purchases, which is less than even what airlines usually give you. The sign-up bonus of 5,000 miles is almost non-existent and it's not worth mentioning. In other words, the card isn't worth your time other cards, that cast themselves as premium, still have insignificant rewards. If you want to earn miles for Korean Air, better take just a travel credit card. However many miles it offers for...

Many people encounter problems when trying to redeem miles they've earned with specific airline using a co-branded credit card. The Asiana Airlines is a part of Star Alliance and there are redemption options only within this alliance partners. So, make sure you choose airlines from Star Alliance when trying to redeem with partners. Better way to redeem with partners, is contacting frequent flyer's customer service and asking them for available redemptions opportunities. If you do not want to experience such problems in the future, consider getting a general travel rewards credit card as your main source of earning miles. Such cards do not have airlines restrictions when it comes to...

You are totally right, SKYPASS credit cards fall short of most airline credit cards, not to mention general travel cards. They have almost nothing to entice you with compared to what good cards now offer. While airlines credit cards grant you with 2 miles for airline purchases, SKYPASS Visa Classic doesn't give you even that. And the sign-up bonus of 5,000 miles is laughable by todays standards. If you really want a credit card, you'll find nothing better than general travel cards. Here's where you find large sign-up bonuses, good rewards and nice conditions. Besides, such cards will allow you to earn not only on Korean Air, but on all other airlines and also redeem miles for all airlines...

You are right. Emirates do not offer a credit card to the U.S. consumers. As for the transfer, any American Express credit card with Membership Rewards® program will allow you to convert Membership Rewards points into Skywards Miles. As an alternative, you can use a regular travel rewards credit card together with your Skywards account. Emirates allows to use cash and miles to pay for your flight.
