I want to apply for the Delta Blue credit card but it seems like 10,000-points bonus is not enough to get a free ticket. Am I right? How is it compared with the bonus of a regular travel card?

The Blue Delta SkyMiles co-branded credit card has a 10k bonus offer. Practically it does not guarantee that you will get an award ticket without additional spendings. Note that the redemption options and required number of miles for an award ticket may vary depending on destination you choose (domestic or international), flight class you prefer (economy or business) and the ticket price. Also the redemption conditions may change depending on whether you fly with Delta or it’s partners. In general 10k is hardly enough for a free ticket.

Another option is to choose a regular travel rewards credit card. With such card you know exactly the amount of a bonus and how much it is in dollars. The Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard® can be an example. It has a 40,000 bonus miles offer — that can be redeemed for a $400 travel statement credit. Also you can pay your attention to travel cards without fixed bonus offers, like Discover it® Miles. The card does not have a traditional sign up bonus but all miles you earn your first year will be matched at the end of the year (provided you are a new cardmember). For example, if you earn 30,000 Miles, you get 60,000 Miles. So you can get even better rewards that that fixed sum you are usually offered. The rewards you earn with a regular card can be redeemable for any travel expenses (including flights, cruises, car rentals and others).
