I often fly Cathay Pacific, but I also choose other airlines. It's not very convenient for me to have a separate credit card for each airline, what can you suggest?
Updated on February 19, 2018
Certainly, when you acquire a credit card for travel, you want it to be versatile and convenient for any needs. Unfortunately, airlines want you to be loyal and only grant you rewards when you fly that one airline. Cathay Pacific wants you to fly Cathay and therefore gives small rewards on all other purchases. That's why unless you fly Cathay Pacific only, it's unprofitable to get a Cathay Pacific Marco Polo credit card – or other airlines cards in that case.
Fortunately, you have other options apart from getting a Cathay card. You can get a travel rewards credit card and earn miles on all airlines you fly. Such cards usually give you increased rewards on all travel purchases as well as a large sign-up bonus. Miles usually don't expire and are easy to redeem. However, one downside is that travel credit cards tend to have an annual fee. If you are ok with that, it's good, just see if the rewards outweigh money lost on fees. If not, there are still attractive options for you.
