I got approved for a Royal Caribbean card, but on second thoughts I’m not sure I’ll go on a cruise this year. Can I spend my sign-up bonus on something else?

Unfortunately, this is not an option. You can redeem bonus points for cruises, room upgrades and onboard purchases – in other words, all purchases within Royal Caribbean, but no more than that. If you are a frequent traveler, you may take a look at credit cards that offer miles as rewards. Miles are redeemable for flights or transferable to partners. There are cards that offer sign-up bonuses even bigger than a RCL card, such as a JetBlue Plus card, which gives you 30,000 miles after you spend $1,000 on purchases within the first 90 days. If you have a good to excellent credit history, then you can enjoy all the perks of the rewards cards.
