PayPal, Target and Walmart: Discover 5% Cashback Bonus Calendar Update
If you are lucky to own one of the Discover cashback bonus credit cards i.e. the Discover it® Cash Back, the Discover it® Balance Transfer, the Discover it® Student Cash Back or the NHL® Discover it® credit card, you most probably know that May brings the beginning of activating the 3rd quarter 5% cashback bonus category. But are you hip to the latest news about the categories update?
If no, you will be thrilled to know that Discover has recently announced extra positions for the third and fourth quarters of 2019. Let’s see where else we can earn more. By the way, do not forget that the 5% cash back is available only after the activation on up to $1,500 per quarter. Once you reach the maximum, the 1% cash back will apply automatically.
New Discover 5% Cashback Bonus Categories
While the second quarter categories stay unaltered, the third quarter besides restaurants now includes PayPal. Purchases made through the PayPal wallet online, when you send money to Friends and Family via PayPal using your Discover Card, and point-of-sale transactions using PayPal Here will be taken into consideration.
The fourth quarter undergoes changes as well. Target and Wallmart.com join Amazon.com. Target purchases bringing 5% cash back include any purchases made online at Target.com, through the Target app, or in-store at Target. Walmart.com 5% bonus purchases include those made at Walmart.com and when shopping through the Walmart app (including Grocery Pick Up and Instore Pick Up). Purchases made in store at Walmart Stores, Walmart Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and Walmart Pay are left out.

- January 1 – March 31, 2019: Grocery stores. Unavailable for activation.
- April 1 – June 30, 2019: Gas stations (stand-alone), Uber (except Uber Eats) and Lyft. Available for activation.
- July 1 – September 30, 2019: Restaurants (full-service restaurants, cafes, cafeterias and fast food locations), PayPal. Available for activation.
- October 1 – December 31, 2019: Amazon.com, Target (online and in-store), Wallmart.com. Can be activated starting August 1.

On April 22 the Canadian direct bank Tangerine Bank introduced an improved sign-up bonus offer for their no-annual fee cash back credit card – the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card. Founded by ING Group in 1997, Tangerine Bank was acquired by Scotiabank in 2012 and now besides the Mastercard cash back card offers savings and chequing accounts, mutual funds and mortgages.

Travelers will be able to collect more points and take advantage of more special features with the new and improved Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority card, which is offering a limited-time introductory bonus of up to 65,000 reward points. This is more than half the points needed to get a companion pass, once they’ve spent the required amount on the card.

Following the acquisition of Whole Foods by the retail giant, Amazon is offering Prime members who have an Amazon Rewards Visa Card 5% off all Whole Food Market purchases.
