If you need to apply for special financing for your large purchase, you can definitely try getting credit from the store you're buying at. But you might want to think twice about doing this, if your current credit card has a low limit or is maxed out. Consider why your credit limit isn't higher. If it's because your credit is poor, work on getting your score up before you apply for new lines of credit. Start by ordering a copy of your credit report, or checking out your FICO score online for free. Look it over and see whether all the information is correct. If it isn't, contact the credit bureau to correct it. If your balances are high, paying them down will help improve your credit score.

You will have good credit history only if you are making all payments due with all your creditors.
