I recently shopped at a Bed Bath and Beyond store and saw that they offer a store credit card. Should I get it?

It can be very tempting to apply for store credit cards. When you’re checking out with your purchases, the clerk will usually ask whether you want to save 10-15% by opening an account right there on the spot. Then you have to quickly decide whether it’s a good time to apply for a new line of credit at the moment. Some things to consider include: what’s my credit score like these days? A poor credit score could mean you won’t even qualify for the card. On the other hand, a good credit score means you might be able to save some money on your purchase. Also, think about how many new lines of credit you’ve applied for lately. Too much new credit in too short a time period can look bad on your credit report. Last but not least, consider whether the store credit card is really the best choice for you, or if another type of card might offer more savings in the long term.
