Rewards

There are many reasons as to why a shopper would want to apply for a credit card aside from financing a large purchase. Most of the credit cards that are available on today’s market come with some type of a reward program. These are the types of cards that will allow cardholders to collect a certain amount of award points when they make qualifying purchases.

The thing about these reward programs is that each credit card will have a certain set of rules when it comes to determining how you can earn award points and how you can use the points. Credit cards offered by major financial companies will usually allow you to earn points on all purchases you make with the card. The points you earn can usually be redeemed on a wide range of options including shopping and travel.

Most store credit cards that are available will have a similar rewarding system. The cardholder will earn points on all qualifying purchases made at that store, and the points they earn can be redeemed for in-store credit. Not all store cards have access to a reward program. For example, the credit card offered by Discount Tire Center does not come with any type of rewards system.

Special Financing

One of the most important things to find out about a card before you apply for it would the APR, as well as any additional information about using it to finance a purchase. Although many store cards will boast a no-interest financing offer, it might not always be as good of a deal as it seems. It’s important to know all the specifications that are involved with that offer.

For example, The Discount Tire Credit Card comes with a 6, 9, and 12-month no-interest financing offer. When you read the title of their financing plan, it sans “No-interest if paid in full within…” The title of this offer automatically lets you know that there is a catch. If you miss one of your scheduled payments when taking part in this offer, you will then be responsible for paying all interest payments all the way back to the original purchase date.

Deciding

Something to keep in mind about most of the store credit cards that are available is that they can be very limiting, when it comes to enhancing your overall shopping experience. Most store cards will not be affiliated with a major payment network, making them only useful at one store. Many other store cards will have low spending limits, which can prevent you from purchasing exactly what you want and potentially mess up your credit score by increasing your credit utilization.
